Product detailed description
Retinal serum · Skin texture and first fine lines
Your skin looks tired, its texture is uneven and you are noticing the first fine lines on your forehead or around your eyes. You are curious about retinoids but worried about irritation. Arencia Retinal Booster Shot is a lightweight gel-cream serum with retinal (retinaldehyde), at 200 ppm, or 0.02%, according to the brand. It is supported by niacinamide, bakuchiol, peptides and conditioning ingredients such as ceramide NP, cholesterol, ectoin and centella.
Retinal is a vitamin A derivative that, with regular use, may help smooth the look of skin texture. Use it in the evening only, introduce it gradually, starting with one or two evenings a week, and always follow with SPF in the morning. Do not use it during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
- Type: retinal serum, gel-cream texture, 30 ml
- Suitable for: uneven texture, first fine lines, tired and dull-looking skin; retailers also recommend it for starting out with retinoids
- Key ingredients: retinal (0.02% according to the brand), niacinamide, bakuchiol, peptides, ceramide NP, ectoin
- Fragrance-free · Serum step, evening only, always with SPF in the morning
Routine step
Arencia Retinal Booster Shot is the Serum step: in the evening after toner, before moisturiser. Always finish with SPF in the morning.
Who the Arencia retinal serum is for
- Your skin texture is uneven and your skin looks tired, even though you keep it well hydrated.
- You are noticing your first fine lines and want to add a retinoid to your evening routine.
- You are new to retinoids and looking for a low concentration in a formula with conditioning ingredients.
- You are ready to introduce the serum gradually and wear SPF every morning.
When to choose something else: you are pregnant or breastfeeding, your skin is very reactive or currently irritated, you have a confirmed nut allergy, or you have recently had a cosmetic procedure.
Texture and skin feel
- Gel-cream texture: retailers describe it as lightweight, fast-absorbing and non-greasy.
- Fragrance-free and alcohol-free: no perfume or ethanol in the formula.
- Light-sensitive: retinal is sensitive to light and air. Keep the serum tightly closed, somewhere cool and away from direct sunlight.
Tip: apply the serum to dry skin and avoid the eye area and lips, where skin tends to react more easily.
Key ingredients: retinal, niacinamide and conditioning ingredients
- Retinal (retinaldehyde), 200 ppm (0.02%) according to the brand: a vitamin A derivative related to retinol. The skin converts it into retinoic acid, and retinal is one step closer in this pathway than retinol. With regular use, it may help smooth the look of skin texture and fine lines. Clinical studies on retinal have used a higher concentration than the brand states for this serum.
- Niacinamide (vitamin B3): may help even out the look of skin tone and support the skin barrier.
- Bakuchiol: a plant-derived ingredient used in skincare for first wrinkles. The brand does not state its concentration.
- Peptides: the formula contains several peptides, such as Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 and Copper Tripeptide-1.
- Ceramide NP, cholesterol, ectoin, centella, panthenol and allantoin: conditioning ingredients the brand includes for skin comfort during retinoid use. They do not rule out retinoid irritation.
- Caffeine, macadamia oil and rapeseed sterols: supporting ingredients in the formula.
How to use Arencia Retinal Booster Shot
- 1. Cleanse in the evening: a gentle cleanser; if you wear SPF or makeup, start with a cleansing oil.
- 2. Toner: a soothing or hydrating one, without exfoliating acids. Let your skin dry.
- 3. Serum: apply a small amount to dry facial skin, avoiding the eye area and lips. Spread gently.
- 4. Moisturiser: a hydrating cream to support skin comfort.
- 5. SPF in the morning: as the last step of your morning routine, every day.
- Getting started: start with one or two evenings per week and gradually increase the frequency as tolerated. On evenings without retinal, a simple hydrating routine is enough.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions about Arencia Retinal Booster Shot
What is retinal, and how is it different from retinol?
Retinal (retinaldehyde) and retinol are both vitamin A derivatives that the skin converts into retinoic acid. Retinal is one step closer in this pathway. Both retinal and retinol tend to be better tolerated than retinoic acid, which is found in prescription medicines. Individual reactions vary, though, so introduce retinal gradually too. Read more in our glossary entry on retinol.
How should I start so my skin doesn't react?
Try the serum on a small area first. Then start with one or two evenings per week and gradually increase the frequency as tolerated. Some mild dryness or flaking may appear at first. If your skin starts burning, becomes significantly red or begins to peel, stop using newly introduced products and return to a simple, well-tolerated routine. Consult a dermatologist if symptoms persist.
How much retinal does the serum contain?
According to the brand, the serum contains 200 ppm retinal, equivalent to 0.02%. Percentages referring to other ingredient complexes should not be confused with the concentration of retinal itself. The low concentration is one reason retailers also recommend it for starting out with retinoids. Tolerance varies, so introduce the serum gradually even at this concentration.
How soon will I see a difference?
With retinoids, any change in skin texture and fine lines is generally assessed only after longer regular use. The brand does not provide results for this specific serum, and changes cannot be guaranteed within a specific timeframe: it depends on your skin's condition, how often you use it, SPF and how your skin responds to retinal.
Why evening only, and why SPF in the morning?
Retinal is sensitive to light, so it belongs in your evening routine. Retinoids can also make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so use SPF 50 as the last step of your morning routine, even in winter and on cloudy days, and avoid intense sun exposure.
Can I combine the serum with azelaic acid, PHA or kojic acid?
Not in the same evening routine. Don't use the serum on the same evening as Dr. Ceuracle Azelaic 10 & Madeca Ampoule, Sungboon Editor Green Tomato Pore Lifting Ampoule+ (which contains a PHA) or Sungboon Editor Kojic Acid Niacinamide Brightening Ampoule. Likewise, don't layer it with AHA/BHA/PHA acids, peels, strong vitamin C, benzoyl peroxide or another retinoid. Alternate these products on different evenings, or use them in the morning with SPF and retinal in the evening.
Can I use the serum during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?
No. The serum contains retinal, a retinoid (vitamin A derivative), and retinoids are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. During this time, choose skincare without retinoids and discuss your choice with your doctor.
How is it different from PURITO Timeless Bloom Retinol Spot Cream?
Both belong to an evening routine with a retinoid. PURITO Timeless Bloom Retinol Spot Cream is a retinol cream designed for targeted application to selected areas. Arencia Retinal Booster Shot is a retinal serum for the whole face, avoiding the eye area and lips, applied before moisturiser. If you want a retinoid only on specific areas, choose PURITO; for the whole face, choose Arencia. Don't use both retinoids on the same evening.
Who is the serum not for, and when should I choose another product?
Skip the serum during pregnancy and breastfeeding, if your skin is very reactive, currently irritated or broken, and shortly before or after cosmetic procedures (peels, laser, waxing). It contains macadamia seed oil and rapeseed sterols. If you have a confirmed allergy to nuts or rapeseed, do not use it without prior advice from a qualified healthcare professional. If you have a diagnosed skin condition such as rosacea or eczema, discuss introducing a retinoid with your dermatologist. The brand does not state the origin of the cholesterol and ceramide, so we cannot recommend the serum as vegan.
What to pair the Arencia serum with
- ANUA Heartleaf 77 Soothing Toner: a soothing toner without exfoliating acids before the serum. Let your skin dry before applying the serum.
- PURITO Mighty Bamboo Panthenol Cream: a panthenol cream that supports skin comfort and the barrier after retinal.
- AXIS-Y Complete No-Stress Physical Sunscreen SPF 50+: a sunscreen as the last step in the morning. Daily SPF belongs with any retinoid routine.
Practical tip: on evenings without retinal, cleanser, toner and moisturiser are enough. If you also want to use azelaic acid or a PHA, apply them on a different evening or in the morning with SPF.
What the brand says
According to the brand, the serum contains 200 ppm (0.02%) retinal. The brand states that it included centella, ectoin and ceramide to help reduce the irritation retinoids can cause. Retailers recommend using it mainly in the evening, introducing it gradually and wearing SPF in the morning. The brand does not publish test results. Check the packaging for the period after opening. The stated concentrations are brand declarations and have not been independently laboratory-verified by VIONE. Individual tolerance may vary.

Arencia: Korean skincare with rice mochi and retinal
Arencia is a South Korean skincare brand known for its Rice Mochi cleansers with a distinctive elastic texture and its Booster Shot serum range. Its “Time-Crafted Artisanal Skincare” approach highlights thoughtful formulations and the experience of everyday skincare.

Why we chose Arencia
Retinal Booster Shot is a lightweight gel-cream serum with retinal. For those new to retinal, this is a clearly defined option: the brand states a 0.02% retinal concentration, and the serum has a clear place in an evening routine. Niacinamide, bakuchiol and peptides complement the formula.
Use the serum in the evening only, 1–2 times a week at first, and always apply SPF in the morning. Do not use it during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Who Arencia is for
- You are dealing with uneven skin texture and the first fine lines.
- You are new to retinal and want a concentration stated by the brand.
- You have a simple evening routine and want to add one active serum.
Do not combine retinal with acids in the same evening routine, for example the Sungboon Editor Kojic Acid or Green Tomato ampoules (they contain a PHA). Alternate them on different evenings.
