How to care for blemish-prone skin
Blemish-prone skin gets oily quickly, has visible pores and a tendency to breakouts or blackheads. Care for it should not dry the skin out. Gentle cleansing, light hydration and targeted steps such as gentle exfoliation or a clay mask, introduced gradually, help. Skincare does not replace treatment. For painful, inflamed or widespread breakouts, consult a dermatologist.
Skin gets oily quickly and pores are visible
Start with a cleanser that does not leave your skin tight. COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser with BHA or Pyunkang Yul Low pH Pore Deep Cleansing Foam tend to suit oilier skin.
Texture is rougher and blackheads appear
Gentle exfoliation may help, such as the MARY & MAY Cica Tea Tree AHA PHA Toner or ANUA Heartleaf LHA Moisture Peeling Gel, introduced gradually according to the product's instructions. You can also add a clay mask, for example AXIS-Y Mugwort Pore Clarifying Wash Off Pack; use it as the specific product's instructions suggest.
Skin is oily but feels tight
Oily skin needs hydration too. A light gel cream such as PURITO Oat In Calming Gel Cream leaves no heavy film.
A single spot appears
Patches such as SKIN1004 Spot Cover Patch or PURITO Wonder Releaf Centella Spot Patch protect the spot from touching and rubbing.
Not sure which step to start with? The personal skincare consultation recommends one first step, not a whole routine. It takes about 3 minutes and is not a medical diagnosis.
A simple routine
Morning: gentle cleansing, a light toner or gel cream, SPF. Evening: makeup removal, cleansing, cream. Introduce an exfoliating product (an acid toner or peeling gel) gradually according to the specific product's instructions. Do not start several exfoliating products at once; if your skin stings, burns or turns very red, reduce the frequency or stop using it.
What to avoid
- drying your skin with harsh cleansers,
- scrubbing and squeezing spots,
- several new active ingredients at once,
- skipping cream because your skin is oily.
Frequently asked questions
I have oily skin. Do I need a cream?
Usually yes. Skin without hydration can feel tight and uncomfortable. A light gel cream tends to suit it better.
How often should I use an acid toner or peel?
Introduce them gradually according to the specific product’s instructions, and do not start several exfoliating products at once. If your skin stings, burns or turns very red, reduce the frequency or stop using it. Use SPF in the morning.
Do spot patches help?
They protect the spot from touching and rubbing and help you leave it alone. They do not replace treatment if breakouts are widespread or painful.
When should I see a dermatologist?
For painful, inflamed or widespread breakouts, or when your skin gets worse despite gentle care.
