Product detailed description

Tranexamic acid and niacinamide cream · Uneven skin tone

Summer has left darker patches on your cheeks, marks from old spots are slow to fade and you would rather not add another serum to your routine. Dr.Althea Melaclear Cream is a brightening cream with tranexamic acid and niacinamide to care for the appearance of darker spots and uneven skin tone. It is supported by three forms of hyaluronic acid, other hydrating ingredients and ceramide NP. Unlike a brightening serum, you use it as the last step of your routine, either all over the face or just on darker areas.

The 20 g size makes it best suited to targeted care. At VIONE, we recommend it as one brightening product in an otherwise simple routine, always with SPF protection in the morning. Test for tolerance on a small area before first use.

  • Type: brightening cream, 20 g, for spot or all-over use
  • Suitable for: care for the appearance of darker spots, post-blemish marks and uneven tone
  • Key ingredients: tranexamic acid, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, ceramide NP
  • Fragrance-free · Moisturiser step, always with SPF protection in the morning

Routine step

Cleanse Toner / essence Serum Moisturiser Eye care SPF Exfoliation Mask

Dr.Althea Melaclear Cream is the Moisturiser step: the last step of your routine, after toner and serum. Always finish with SPF in the morning.

Who Dr.Althea Melaclear Cream is for

  • You are left with darker marks from the sun or from inflamed spots and want your tone to look more even.
  • You want care for specific areas only: you can apply the cream to those spots and keep the rest of your routine unchanged.
  • You don't want to layer another serum and prefer brightening care in cream form.
  • Your skin generally tolerates active skincare and doesn't react to every new product.
  • You wear SPF every morning, or you are ready to start.

When to choose something else: your skin is currently irritated or very reactive, you mainly need a nourishing cream for very dry skin, or you require verified vegan skincare. If you have widespread or rapidly changing patches, see a dermatologist first.

Texture and skin feel

  • A texture that melts: retailers describe it as a balm-like texture that melts into a light cream when patted in, without a greasy feel.
  • Small 20 g size: practical for targeted care of darker areas.
  • Fragrance-free: no perfume, essential oils or ethanol in the formula.

Tip: a small amount gently patted onto darker areas is enough. According to the manufacturer's directions, it can also be layered more generously as an overnight moisturising treatment. If your skin is more sensitive, try regular use first.

Key ingredients: tranexamic acid and niacinamide

  • Tranexamic acid: an ingredient used in skincare to care for the appearance of darker spots and uneven tone. Most clinical data relates to forms of use other than a cream applied to the skin, so the performance of this particular formula cannot be established from the presence of this ingredient alone.
  • Niacinamide (vitamin B3): the best-researched ingredient in this formula when it comes to skin tone. It may help even out the look of your skin tone and support the skin barrier. More in the glossary entry for niacinamide.
  • Three forms of hyaluronic acid and Hydroxyethyl Urea: humectants that bind water in the skin and help ease a tight feeling.
  • Ceramide NP: a conditioning ingredient. It is one of the lipids similar to those in the skin barrier.
  • Sodium DNA: an additional ingredient in the formula. Its origin, specific characteristics and effect in this cream cannot be established from the INCI name alone.
  • Plant extracts: gromwell (Lithospermum), gardenia, malt, wild pansy, plumeria and tomato round out the formula.

How to use Dr.Althea Melaclear Cream

  • 1. Cleanse: a gentle cleanser; in the evening, if you wear SPF or makeup, start with a cleansing oil.
  • 2. Toner: ideally a soothing or hydrating one, without exfoliating acids.
  • 3. Serum (optional): a hydrating layer. Only add another brightening serum once you know how your skin responds to the cream.
  • 4. Cream: apply the cream as the final skincare step to areas with uneven-looking tone, or all over the face, avoiding the eye area, and pat it in gently. According to the manufacturer's directions, it can also be layered more generously as an overnight moisturising treatment.
  • 5. SPF in the morning: follow with broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher during the day as the last step. Daily UV protection helps limit further darkening of pigment spots.
  • Frequency: for morning and evening use. If your skin is sensitive, start once daily and adjust according to tolerance. Do not apply to broken or irritated skin.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Dr.Althea Melaclear Cream

Should I apply the cream to spots only or to my whole face?

Both are possible. Apply the cream as the final skincare step to areas with uneven-looking tone, such as darker areas and post-blemish marks, or all over the face. According to the manufacturer's directions, it can also be layered more generously as an overnight moisturising treatment. If you use it on spots only, apply your usual moisturiser to the rest of your face. Do not apply the cream to the eye area.

Is the cream suitable for sensitive skin?

With caution. The cream is free from fragrance and ethanol, but it contains active ingredients for caring for skin tone. Try it on a small area first. If you have a diagnosed skin condition, discuss new skincare products with your dermatologist. If your skin starts burning, becomes significantly red or begins to peel, stop using newly introduced products and return to a simple, well-tolerated routine. Consult a dermatologist if symptoms persist.

How soon will I see a difference?

Changes in the appearance of darker areas cannot be guaranteed within a specific timeframe: it depends on their cause and depth, on wearing SPF consistently and on how your skin responds to the cream. If it suits you, use it regularly and give it time.

Why does SPF belong with this cream in the morning?

Sun exposure is one of the main triggers of darker patches. Daily UV protection helps limit further darkening of pigment spots and is an important part of caring for uneven skin tone. Use broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher as the last step of your morning routine, even in winter and on cloudy days.

Is it the same product as Dr.Althea 345 Relief Cream or ISDIN Melaclear?

No. Melaclear Cream is a separate Dr.Althea product intended for caring for the appearance of darker spots and uneven tone. 345 Relief Cream is a different cream from the same brand with a different purpose. ISDIN Melaclear Advanced is a serum from another brand that only shares part of the name with Dr.Althea Melaclear Cream. Always check the exact product name on the packaging.

How is it different from Beauty of Joseon Glow Deep Serum and Sungboon Editor Kojic Acid Niacinamide?

All three target uneven tone and all contain niacinamide, but they differ in format and formula. Beauty of Joseon Glow Deep Serum Rice + Alpha Arbutin is a serum with rice bran water and alpha-arbutin. Sungboon Editor Kojic Acid Niacinamide Brightening Ampoule is an ampoule with kojic acid, PHA and turmeric, dispensed with an applicator. Dr.Althea Melaclear Cream is a cream with tranexamic acid that you use as the last step, on spots or all over the face. If you want a serum under your favourite moisturiser, choose one of the serums. Melaclear Cream is an option when you want to address uneven-looking tone through the final moisturising step rather than adding another serum. If you are comparing different active ingredients and product types, start with the Brightening & Pigmentation category. Don't layer several brightening products at once until you know how your skin responds.

Can I combine the cream with retinol, acids or vitamin C?

The cream itself contains no retinoids or exfoliating acids. Combine it with other active products gradually and introduce new products one at a time. Don't use the cream after microneedling or dermarolling, or on broken skin. If your skin starts burning, becomes significantly red or begins to peel, stop using newly introduced products and return to a simple, well-tolerated routine. Consult a dermatologist if symptoms persist.

Who is the cream not for, and when should I choose another product?

Skip the cream if your skin is currently irritated or very reactive, or if you have a confirmed allergy to any of its ingredients, such as tomato or malt extract. We have not been able to confirm the vegan origin of all ingredients, particularly Sodium DNA, so we cannot recommend it to customers who require verified vegan skincare. Show any spot that changes, grows or bleeds to a dermatologist. If you have widespread patches or suspect melasma, also see a dermatologist first. You will find more options for caring for skin tone in our brightening & pigmentation range.

Can I use the cream during pregnancy?

The brand gives no information on pregnancy. We recommend discussing the cream with your doctor during pregnancy and breastfeeding and showing them the ingredient list below.

What to pair Dr.Althea Melaclear Cream with

Practical tip: a brightening routine doesn't need to be long. Cleanser, toner, Melaclear and SPF in the morning are enough. Only add other active products once you know how your skin responds to the cream.

Dr.Althea is a Korean skincare brand founded in 2014 in Seoul, focused on care for sensitive and irritated skin. The brand is known for products such as 345 Relief Cream and the 147 Barrier range. At VIONE, we have selected a different focus from its portfolio: Melaclear Cream for the appearance of dark spots and uneven skin tone.

Do dark marks remain after breakouts? Melaclear combines tranexamic acid and niacinamide in a cream designed to care for the appearance of dark spots and uneven skin tone. Follow the instructions on your product packaging for application.

We cannot promise a change in skin tone within a set time. It depends on the type of spots, your skin’s condition and regular sun protection.
